A Reason To Eat Cake!

Hello everyone, I've just joined the Words & Pictures Team and I'm pleased to be kicking off my role as joint celebrations editor with a very exciting double post!

In fact it's so exciting that I've been forced to declare today officially a cake eating day!

I'm sure you will all agree that the excitement of not only our debut author Gill James publishing her first book but the ongoing success of Katie Dale merits some serious fork and cake action? Read on for more lovely info about our successful authors and please excuse me while I grab another slice...

Gill James’ Veiled Dreams is a young adult novel published on 26 July by Our Street, an imprint of John Hunt Publishing.

Christina spends several months in another reality whilst actually in a coma. Is she dreaming? Which world is real? In that other world she finds some answers to questions about her own world. But can she get back?

@GillJames

Gill is Words & Pictures' Network News  Editor and she used her skills to help her find a publisher for Veiled Dreams. One of her students managed to secure a publishing contract on something she had started at university on one of Gill’s courses and  when Gill checked them out to make sure they were legitimate she very much liked what she saw, so much so that she submitted to them herself. She has actually found them very hard-working and professional.   Well done Gill for showing the value of networking – though odd that this time the student made the introduction!

@katiedaleuk

Our next reason to eat cake is the fabulous Katie Dale! A previous winner of Undiscovered Voices, her debut novel Someone Else's Life has been shortlisted for the Stockport Schools book award, a great achievement and we wish her lots of luck.

But wait, there's even more excitement in Katie's life at the moment as her second novel is published by Simon and Schuster on the 1st August 2013!

Little White Lies: Who can you trust when you’re living a lie…? Gorgeous Christian is a mystery. Why does he dye his hair, clam up whenever Lou asks about his past, and have no family photos? But when Christian’s secret is publicly revealed, Lou finds herself in terrible danger – and keeping secrets of her own…

Katie loves nothing more than creating characters - both on page and onstage. She studied English Literature at Sheffield University, where Little White Lies is set, then went to drama school, and was halfway through a gap-year travelling through South-East Asia when she found out she had been chosen as one of the winners of Undiscovered Voices with her debut novel,Someone Else’s Life- but she hadn't finished writing it! She hurried home to complete the novel, and now lives in Cambridge, writing books for children of all ages – whilst playing the occasional princess/assassin/zombie in-between!

I hope you'll all join me by lifting your forks in celebration for Gill and Katie! Bring on the cake!

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
