CELEBRATIONS February 2018

Love is in the air, as we welcome in February and share the love the SCBWI-BI way!
B B Taylor, armed with her bow and arrows of good news, is here celebrating yet more of our members' achievements.

New Releases

Teri Terry is kicking off the month with the latest instalment in her not-to-be-missed trilogy. Deception, published by Orchard Books, is released on Wednesday 7 February 2018.
Don't believe the lies ...

Roger Stevens kicks off the celebrations with not one but two new books! First up is his new poetry book The Waggiest Tales, a book of poems by dogs written with help from Roger Stevens and Brian Moses. It's illustrated by Ed Boxall and published by Otter Barry Books. They welcome you to join them at the Raystede Centre, Ringmer on 10 February for the launch

And second up is Roger's book of children's poems, with Liz Brownlee and Matt Goodfellow, The Same Inside: Poems about Empathy, which is published by Macmillan Children's Books.

Why not check out the awesome Roger Stevens' poetry on his website and YouTube channel?

The year for double releases continues as the unstoppable writing force that is Paula Harrison released two new books in her beautiful Tiara Friends series, published by Scholastic. The Mystery of the Lake Monster and The Hunt for Hidden Treasure are out now.

Leonie Roberts is a SCBWI debut author both here in the UK and in the US. My Colourful Chameleon, which can be found on Amazon, is illustrated by Mike Byrne and published by Quarto. She is currently busy planning lots of events in Liverpool and the surrounding areas, including at the Write Blend book shop. Make sure you check out her author Facebook page for all dates and events.

Alina Surnait had her debut picture book about the fear of darkness, I Love You, Bunny, published on 1 February by Lincoln Children's Books. Not only is it being released in the UK, but it will also be published in Japan by Toyokan Books in March 2018.

B B Taylor shares the love the only way she knows how, with a new book of animal tales. Weird N Wonderful Tales: The Furry Collection is a selection of her favourite rhyming animal tales, complete with fact files and activity pages too! The 14th book to come from the self-published author is illustrated by Karla Brading, with cover art by Holly Bushnell. It's available on Amazon or from her website.

Upcoming Books

Ruth Estevez is feeling the love as the announcement comes for her first YA novel, which is coming out June 21 2018. Jiddy Vardy is about a female smuggler in Robin Hood's Bay, Yorkshire, and is published by the exciting new Manchester-based press, ZunTold.

Katherine Wiseman is on a roll. Her German publishers, Piper Verlag, will be bringing out Gangster School 2 on 1 March this year. And her debut Gangster School is coming out later this year in the UK: watch this space for more on that!

Rowena House is creating some excitement as she prepares for her debut novel, The Goose Road, which is out with Walker Books on 5 April 2018. It's described by Fiona Noble in The Bookseller as a "gorgeous historical novel. An impressive debut with a tenacious heroine. One for slightly older fans of Emma Carroll." She is definitely on cloud nine with praise like that!

Awards

Jill Calder has reason to feel the love this month as The Picture Atlas, written by Simon Holland, illustrated by Jill Calder, and published by Bloomsbury, got shortlisted for the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards in the London Book Fair Children's Travel Book of the Year category!

Agents

Congratulations to picture book author Fiona Barker, who is celebrating the love this month with her new agent Alice Williams. She signed with her after the SCBWI party.

She has the most awesome glasses!

Lizbeth Martin Crawford has been signed with YA agent, Leon Husock of NYC agency, Lori Perkins Literary Agency. Congratulations, we can't wait to see what's next for you.

Have you secured your dream agent? Are you one step closer on your adventure to publication? Shout it out and let us celebrate with you too!

New Members

We love welcoming new members into SCBWI, and watching them grow and succeed in chasing their goals. If you're a new member, let us know so we can welcome you too. SCBWI has so much to offer its members and celebrating their successes is just part of the fun! Share the love and share the journey; it's much more fun when you have us to celebrate with you!

We have several new members who we are so excited to welcome: Sarah MacDonald, AJ De M Hurst, and Helen Ishmurzin. We can't wait to share this journey with you!

Good News

So much good news this February; it definitely looks like love is in the air with all these celebrations!

Helen Moss has just secured a four-book deal with Godwin Books for The Time Dogs, a series for 5-8 year-olds, thanks to her brilliant agent, Jenny Savill.

Emma Finlayson-Palmer won the Urban Retreats 6 month novel course scholarship. Well done!

Barbara Henderson, author of Fir for Luck and Punch, had fantastic news to share when she broke her personal record and sold 70 books at a school event in Perthshire in a single visit. Look at that stack!

Katherine Wiseman is back in our celebrations again, and continuing her quest for world domination! She now has a Dutch publisher, Uitgeverij Holland. After reading a blog post she did for My Book Corner, they thought Gangster School sounded interesting. They tracked her down and are bringing out Gangster School in the summer. She has also managed to get an agreement with her German publishers, Piper Verlag, for publishing Gangster School 4. She is an unstoppable force this year!

Joshua Simpson has some exciting news! He has been made the Executive Editor of the journal International Research in Children’s Literature. Congratulations!

Sophie Anderson is having a whirlwind year with her amazing new book The House With Chicken Legs. Not only was it Book of the Month in The Bookseller, but she also had a lovely interview with Fiona Noble and a two-page author profile in the same issue. Then The House with Chicken Legs was on the cover of the buyer's guide too! One to watch out for this year!

Have you got good news to share? New book? New agent? Award nominee or winner? Are you a new member? Say hi and let us know. Why not send an email over with your good news, a picture, and any links so we can shout and celebrate too :)

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
