It's a tricky business, how not to soak up the ideas of others and feed them into your own work. I'm always on the look out for ways to weave in some intertexuality - mostly for my own benefit of incorporating story elements that I've loved!Nancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16683226216793969080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1222814162697318696.post-16239369312719322412015-03-23T10:15:55.341+00:002015-03-23T10:15:55.341+00:00Thanks, Nancy, for a thoughtful piece. It describes how writers necessarily draw on everything they have read/consumed (whether consciously or not) and can also use references to deepen the reader's experience e.g. a fairy tale that goes wrong will be more enjoyable to a reader who knows the original story. I had great fun writing a piece on intertextuality in Andy Stanton's Mr Gum books for my MA in children's lit!Jan Deykinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03486767300325809264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1222814162697318696.post-90695300397930948652015-03-22T17:03:03.578+00:002015-03-22T17:03:03.578+00:00This is a great piece Nancy. Not for blabbing about them to other people but for spending too long getting my act together to write and polish the idea into a fit state to be published.Jo Franklinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11863749932391225653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1222814162697318696.post-21514794280844499262015-03-22T10:55:47.711+00:002015-03-22T10:55:47.711+00:00But when does inspiration turn into plagiarism? I know that music suffers from a much more limited canvas than language, but I wonder how long it will be before we have a Blurred Lines type plagiarism case over a mega-selling children's book?Nick Crosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02571077124165351007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1222814162697318696.post-40809417654275669102015-03-22T10:15:34.570+00:002015-03-22T10:15:34.570+00:00A beautifully written and thoughtful piece.
