I think it may need someone who knows more than I do about who's who and who's doing what in the industry - but perhaps if I was to set this in motion people would a) advise and b) put themselves forward for the list. I agree it would be hard to endorse editors, but there would have to be some kind of recommendation or track record at least?LJ Mosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12743605175112804565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1222814162697318696.post-72010205348770502342013-10-08T13:07:35.140+01:002013-10-08T13:07:35.140+01:00Thanks everyone for commenting.

I think it might be hard for the organisation to endorse freelance editors - or comment on whether they are professional or not - but a non-biased directory would be a great resource. I bet SCBWI would be over the moon if you volunteered to put one together?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1222814162697318696.post-25856850864885889902013-10-07T10:40:14.932+01:002013-10-07T10:40:14.932+01:00It would be very useful to have a SCBWI or W&P...It would be very useful to have a SCBWI or W&P resources page somewhere that listed all UK professional, experienced editors who offer a freelance editing service and will undertake, for example, a structural edit on a novel. (I don't mean a report - they can be useful but they're not the same as working with an editor). This is a really good start! Cost is usually an issue for most people, but if it makes it more likely you'll sell your book or be able to self-publish to a high standard then it's worth looking into ways and means.LJ Mosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12743605175112804565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1222814162697318696.post-85951852679477965402013-10-07T10:27:14.603+01:002013-10-07T10:27:14.603+01:00Thanks, Sara. As it was, I muddled through with a friend helping me edit. I learnt a huge amount, but it wasn't until I signed with an agent that I really got to grips with structure, character motivation and dramatic tension. I thought Imogen and Beverley's answer rather ignored the existence of editorial agents, though?Nick Crosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02571077124165351007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1222814162697318696.post-56255865834331269142013-10-07T09:56:29.777+01:002013-10-07T09:56:29.777+01:00Thanks very much Sara, yep very useful advice.
