BLOG BREAK Do-overs, Deadlines and Damascene Moments

Nick Cross presents his fortnightly selection of must-read blogs.

As someone who has already rewritten his current novel three times without even finishing a full draft, I loved Kelly McCaughrain's post about ripping it up and starting again. Some top advice here about how not to panic when you're under pressure!

Talking of pressure, Kathryn Evans thinks deadlines are a good idea (and I agree). Her post for Notes from the Slushpile suggests lots of practical ways to keep yourself sane and deliver on time.

The Bologna Book Fair is a big event in the children's publishing calendar, so here are a couple of different perspectives. John Shelley had both the great honour of being nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award and a Damascene moment about the future direction of his career. Meanwhile, Lucy Rowland buttonholed various delegates including Chris Riddell to find out their Bologna Dos and Don'ts.

Juliet Clare Bell has roped in Dr Sarah Mitchell to compile an exhaustive resource of picture books on the subject of bereavement. It's not the easiest topic for a blog post, but a rewarding read nonetheless.

Finally, on a lighter note, Candy Gourlay is finally a published picture book writer. Yay! Her blog post is a concise review of the long creative journey that resulted in Is it a Mermaid?

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
