BLOG BREAK Permission to Play

Nick Cross presents his selection of must-read SCBWI-BI member blogs.

John Condon is a bit of an idea factory (he mentions on his website having 790 story ideas!), so we can probably learn from him. Here's an interview with Picture Book Den where he talks about his techniques for getting ideas and writing picture books.

Staying on the subject of creativity, Natascha Biebow is investigating how we can give ourselves permission to be more creative.

Claire Watts has left her agent. And while that sounds like a rather seismic event, it gives Claire the chance to write a perceptive blog post about what she's looking for in her next agent relationship.

My nomination for busiest author of the year goes to Clare Helen Welsh, who, not content with launching several books in 2022, has started a new initiative called Books That Help. Taking in diverse topics such as Moving House or Mental Illness, Clare suggests titles from a range of authors to help adults find picture books that offer support for children through life’s ups and downs.

Emma Finlayson-Palmer is pretty busy too, writing articles for Words & Pictures and also being interviewed by Sarah Broadley about her debut chapter book series Autumn Moonbeam.

Finally, it's great to hear about the galvanising effect that the recent SCBWI-BI Picture Book Retreat had on Juliet Clare Bell. Let's play!

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
