FROM YOUR REGIONAL ADVISORS A Holiday Message

Dear Members

We’re happy you are here! Without you, our valued members, there would be no SCBWI! It’s been a strange year for sure. Some of us have found ourselves juggling many new and sometimes worrying things, while still trying to carve out time and space for our craft. Writing and illustrating for children is so important!

Our team of dedicated volunteers and staff in LA are working hard to bring you inspiring and relevant programming and opportunities. Be sure to take advantage of the online international conferences, webinars, promotional opportunities, awards, scholarships, and grants, newsletters and more!

In the British Isles, we have put together a packed schedule of online events in 2021 aimed at our diverse community of writers and illustrators, working in all genres, pre-published, self-published and published. Look out for the 1-1 Reviewer Festival, the Undiscovered Voices Masterclass series of revision and pitching workshops, Middle Grade, YA and Picture Book focus weekends, online Agents’ Party, Bootcamp for Debut Authors, Portfolio Reviews and Art Directors’ Intensives, plus the Undiscovered Voices anthology competition – and more. We have made a commitment to fund 10% of the places at every one of these events as long as our treasury allows, so they will be free and accessible to underrepresented writers and illustrators. We hope that you will join us and be part of SCBWI.

We do hope that by running virtual and low-cost events even more of our members will be able to join in, and that you will let us know what you’d like to see and how we can help you.

We hope that this holiday season you will stay safe and well and enjoy some time to read, write, draw and paint and consider all you’ve contributed this year – big or small. Even with all the dips and dives, being on this journey alongside fellow SCBWI members and your contributions makes this world a better place for children, their families and hopefully for you too.

Here's a video from this year's online Mass Book Launch. Let's raise a cheer for all those in our community who've published new books in trying circumstances this year.

Be kind to yourselves. And keep creating. Now, more than ever, we need books filled with more hope, fairness, beauty and honesty – and wonder.

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
