EVENTS SCBWI London Christmas Party

The in-person SCBWI London Christmas Party returns for the first time in three years.
Christian Darkin shares the details.

Despite the warm weather, the Christmas season is upon us already, and with that comes the annual SCBWI London Christmas party - a fixture in the SCBWI calendar that writers and illustrators look forward to every year. It's a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new ones, while enjoying some festive cheer.

The last time we were able to hold a face-to-face Christmas party was in 2019. The last two Christmas parties had to be moved online. Despite this, dozens of people signed up on Zoom for the 2020 and 2021 parties, and came along (bringing their own mince pies and mulled wine). Both parties were scheduled to finish around 9:30, but in the event, both went on until well after midnight, with hosts swapping people between virtual rooms so that everyone got a chance to chat to everyone else.

This year, we’re delighted to say, we’re back in the real world. Specifically, we're returning to the Silver Cross just off Trafalgar Square. It's the same venue that we used for the 2019 party, and it's where London SCBWI members have been meeting up regularly on the first Wednesday of every month for the last year or so. We have the whole of the downstairs bar to ourselves.

We usually have upwards of fifty people, and you might well meet authors and illustrators whose names you already know from the Carnegie Medal List, or the Book Trust Award. Librarians, publishers and agents often pop in too to kick off the Christmas season.

The 2022 Christmas party will be held on Wednesday, 7th December from 7pm onwards. It is, by far, the biggest SCBWI London social event of the year, and we're expecting a good crowd.

The cost will be £12 per head for members and £15 for non-members, and this will include a couple of drinks. You can order food at the bar. They have a pretty good range of main meals and snacks, but we're not supplying nibbles this time. We wanted to keep the cost as low as possible.

So be sure to book your ticket now as the tickets are sure to go fast!

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
