HAPPY NEW YEAR Resolutions from the editors

As we welcome in 2023,
the Words & Pictures editorial team share their resolutions
and goals for the year ahead.

Gulfem Wormald, Editor:

I used to find every excuse there is not to put my work out there and query agents and publishers. After a very promising 1-1 with an agent at the SCBWI conference in Manchester, my new year resolution is to start taking myself more seriously and give it a real go at finding an agent. Wish me luck so I don’t talk myself out of it AGAIN.

Fran Price, Deputy Editor

To develop a sketchbook habit of 10 minutes a day minimum - and to procrastinate less!

Tita Berredo, Illustration Editor:

  • Continue doing the things that I love doing and that I do well. It's easy to get sidetracked.

  • Go through my old ideas and rescue the ones that I still think are good.

  • Refresh my portfolio and revamp my website.

  • Rethink my career from the perspective I am right now.

Tracy Curran, Production Editor

I started my MA in Writing for Young People in September via Bath Spa University. The reading list has helped me increase the breadth of books on my TBR pile so I'd like to continue reading more widely into 2023. In terms of writing, I'd just like to keep hold of that enjoyment and allow myself to play with ideas more.

Stephanie Cotela, Events Editor:

This year I’m not making resolutions or setting writerly goals. If I write 5K words in a day, week or even a month, I’m going to pat myself on the back. I want to fully appreciate and celebrate the fact that creativity isn’t a switch we can turn on and off.

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
