CELEBRATIONS May 2024
May has been a month of sunshine and showers with bees buzzing busily around. But our SCBWI members have been beavering away too and, as usual, there is some good news to be had...
Congratulations to Ashley Thorpe who has landed a two-book deal with Usborne. The Boy to Beat the Gods - the first of Ashley's books to be published - is a standalone fantasy adventure that takes inspiration from Yoruba mythology. Ashley says, "We see a lot of Greek and Norse retellings and reimaginings but with this book I really wanted to shine a light on rich West African mythology and lore." The book will hit the shelves on July 4th.
Ashley's novel is the first in a two-book deal but stands alone.
Ashley is a writer based in Manchester who also works as senior editor at Storymix, the inclusive children's fiction studio.
Congratulations to Rebecca Colby whose book, HUSH, LITTLE DOZER, illustrated by Katya Longhi, was published by Simon & Schuster in April.
Say goodnight to each construction vehicle as it completes its last task of the day – especially to little dozer – in this sweet board book that puts a new spin on “Hush, Little Baby.”
Push, little dozer,
clear the ground,
level out the rocky mound.
When you’ve flattened smooth the land,
signal loader to the sand.
After finishing their job for the day, construction vehicles rumble off to sleep!
Have you got good news to share? A new book? An offer of agent representation? An award? Don't be shy! Why not send an email over to production@britishscbwi.org together with a picture and any links so we can celebrate with you.

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
