CELEBRATIONS Summer 2024

The holiday season is here - a time when lots of writers, illustrators and industry professionals take a break and recharge. That doesn't seem to have stopped some fabulous things from happening, though. In fact, we've got so much good news, we've had to split this article into two parts. Look out for more in the next edition of  Words & Pictures...

A huge congratulations to Sharon Hopwood. Sharon's debut picture book Little Mouse is Absolutely, Completely, TOTALLY FINE! publishes on 15th August with Farshore and is illustrated by Marisa Morea.

Written in bouncy and engaging rhyme, the book introduces readers to a fabulous cast of mice, each with their own BIG emotion: Timid mouse. Tired mouse. Ready for the world mouse... On her website, Sharon says that this picture book 'supports personal, social, emotional development and mental health by exploring feelings, emotions and body language' and will 'encourage children to become body language detectives'. We wish your new release every success, Sharon!

There's great news for our very own sub-editor Cate Haynes this week. After winning the WriteMentor Novel Award in 2023 with her MG manuscript, Nan Crabapple is Spellbound, Cate has signed with Becky Bagnell of Lindsay Literary Agency. When announcing the news, Cate said, 'Here's to witches, spells, soulrazers, queens and lots and lots of CAKE'.

Meanwhile Becky said, 'I can't wait to share it with publishers'. Congratulations Cate, your manuscript sounds wonderful and we can't wait to follow the next stage of your journey.

Now it is up to 12 year old Mani to change the fate of the world.

There's another exciting MG announcement we need celebrate. Lui Sit, who is also represented by Becky Bagnell of Lindsay Lit, has revealed that her debut MG novel will be published by MacMillan Children's Books on 1st May 2025, with a sequel to follow in 2026. Land of the Last Wildcat champions the importance of our natural world and Lui is excited for everyone to meet 10 year old Puffin and the kuri wildcat. Lui won the FAB prize in 2022 with an earlier version of the novel. We can't wait to hear more about this novel, Lui, which will be illustrated by David Dean.

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
