CELEBRATIONS February 2025

Let's take a look at what our SCBWI members are celebrating this month...

Congratulations to Sheila M. Averbuch who is publishing her first non-fiction book later this year. PITCH YOUR BOOK: How to write a letter that hooks an agent on your novel contains valuable advice for those preparing for submission and you can read more information about it on Sheila's website

Sheila has been a member of SCBWI since 2012 and cofounded the Scotland network. She also won the first THE HOOK - a pitching competition that takes place at the annual SCBWI conference. Sheila says:

"I was the first pitching champion for SCBWI British Isles when I won the first year of The Hook in 2015, pitching live at the conference in Winchester to a panel of six literary agents. I went on to get offers from four literary agents and my debut middle grade novel Friend Me was published by Scholastic Press New York in 2020. The new book draws on everything I learned about pitching over a number of manuscripts and many agent rejections, providing a how-to that allows any querying fiction writer seeking an agent to write a compelling query letter."

We wish you every success, Sheila.

Congratulations to Tracy Curran. After announcing her debut chapter book series Unicorns in Uniforms in the autumn, the first book, Dragon Inferno, is released this coming week on Thursday 6th February. Illustrated in full-colour by Steve Wood and published by UCLan, it follows the firefighting unicorn, Blaze, and her vehicle Quench as they battle to put out a fire that two young dragons have accidentally started in Witchy Wood. Will they get everyone to safety and manage to extinguish the flames?

No comments:

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
