Ten-Minute Blog Break - 21st July

Logo by Melany Pietersen

Apologies if you were expecting Nick Cross - you get me today. I've taken the opportunity to indulge my inner twitcher. I have searched out some of the more infrequent posters - the Lesser Spotted Bloggers. Get your drink and snack of choice - and have a good read...

First, for a thoughtful and honest post on the process of submission, read Sheila Averbuch's Your manuscript: build the world and let it go. It's full of generous wisdom.

Then complement it with Nicky Schmidt's latest post on Absolute Vanilla for a humorous take on a different part of the creative process. There is a whale involved.

Now dive into something deeper - Jane McLoughlin's Writing Scared . This explores the underlying theme of her latest book  'The Crowham Martyrs' and how it evolved: an insight into the darker side of creativity.

Finish off with two cheery and bright moments. From last week,  A Bit of News that flitted past my binoculars but is too good to miss from Nicola Morgan, and finally a real bird (well, sort of) from Sam Zuppardi which made me smile. Never underestimate the power of an illustrator to warm your cockles.

Normal service will be resumed next week.

She was born in Yorkshire but now lives by the coast in Sussex where she runs a tiny writer-friendly B&B. Her interests include reviewing books, collecting sea glass and belly dancing, though not at the same time.

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
