Small Big Celebrations for Kathryn Evans and Kerry Trickett

By Charlotte Comley

I'm so excited to share the Small and BIG celebrations of some of our hard working SCBWI members!

Big Celebration for Kathryn Evans

Long term SCBWI member and volunteer, Kathryn Evans, is having quite a year. Since the publication of More of Me in February, rights have sold in several countries including Germany and the USA. To top it all, the book has been nominated for the Carnegie Medal 2017 - KATHRYN is over the moon. Kathryn Evans is also the winner of the 2016 Edinburgh International Book Festival First Book Award for her debut novel, More of Me. This is the first time in the seven years of the Award that a YA novel has won.
Kathryn Evans said, “I am stunned to have won the Edinburgh International Book Festival First Book Award– when I saw the calibre of the other authors I thought I didn’t have a hope. So often children’s fiction is seen as the poor cousin to adult books – yet in it, we tackle some of the hardest subjects in the most innovative of ways. I am so proud to hold the banner up for YA fiction.
More of Me, published by Usborne, is the extraordinary story of sixteen year old Teva whose life seems normal: school, friends, boyfriend. But at home she hides an impossible secret. Eleven other Tevas. Because once a year, Teva separates into two, leaving a younger version of herself stuck at the same age, in the same house... watching the new Teva live the life that she'd been living. But as her seventeenth birthday rolls around, Teva is determined not to let it happen again. She's going to fight for her future. Even if that means fighting herself.

Small Celebration for Kerry Trickett

Whilst playing around with mixing together some new and old ideas for one of my picture book manuscripts, I had an overwhelming urge to check my inbox. There, I discovered a gem (or was it a golden egg?) shining out from the pile of unread emails. It was from the Golden Egg Academy! This was the email I had been waiting for.

Excitement and dread rushed through me. Like ripping off a plaster, I opened it quickly and scan read to find out the outcome of my submission. There, were the beautiful words that informed me that I had been accepted into the nest! Loud whoops of joy and a fair amount of jumping up and down followed, much to my young children’s amusement!

That night I celebrated with flowers from the hubby, chocolates and a glass of bubbles and treated myself to a couple of new books from my wish list. I am now looking forward to working with my Golden Egg Editor, Jo Collins, on my works in progress.

Right, celebration time over, time to crack on!

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
