SCBWI-BI CONFERENCE 2022 Finding your power

In the run-up to November's conference, Co-Chair of the Conference Committee Marie Basting shares some key dates for your diaries and news that bookings will open very soon.

Hello conference goers new and old. Your conference chairs — that's me and Alison Gardiner — are very excited to announce that it is almost time to open bookings for our first SCBWI-BI Conference to be based in Manchester.

With the help of a fantastic team of volunteers, we have put together an amazing programme, with inspiring keynotes and superb workshops for you to attend.

Here are all the dates you need to be aware of before the event. Grab your diaries and get ready to conference Manchester-style.

Mid August

Bookings will be open. Check out our Twitter feed @SCBWI-BI, Facebook page and watch out for those emails that are flowing into your inbox.

The programme will be published VERY SOON — we're just dotting the Is and crossing the Ts — then you'll be able to choose your sessions. So get reading and watch out for updates as they go live.

Remember Words & Pictures will be your source for more information on our keynotes, as well as other features of the conference.

Wednesday 31st August

If you would like to take advantage of the discount we have negotiated for delegates at the Hyatt House – the faculty hotel – the cut off is today.

More details here.

Monday 5th September

Scholarship details will be announced. Scholarships are for members who would like to attend the conference but perhaps cannot raise the funds. All the details will be released and shared on our conference webpages and also in an email blast to members.

  • 12th September — Scholarships open for entries.
  • 19th September — Deadline for scholarship entries. Scholarship places will be announced in October.

Sunday 18th September

Book by today to take advantage of our early bird incentive and have the opportunity to win back your conference fee.

Wednesday 21st September by 5pm

As usual, we will have our Mass Book Launch Party to celebrate all the wonderful books our members have launched in 2022. It will look a little different this year but, don't worry, you can still wear fancy dress, with the theme being 'Manchester Through the Ages'.

Have a think about your costume.

Please look out for the email blast that will be sent to all our members on 7th September with a link to a form that must be filled in by 21st September if you would like your book to be part of the launch.

This will have all the information you need about the night itself. Since we were unable to have an in-person MBL for those launching during the pandemic, anyone attending the conference who had a book published between November 2019 and November 2021 will also be showcased on the night.

(You must also fill your form in by September 21st).

We can’t wait to celebrate everyone’s success in person.

Monday 3rd October

This is the deadline for submitting manuscripts for the 1-to-1s with industry professionals. This is an amazing opportunity for you have your work read by an agent or editor and to gain face to face feedback.

Remember these sessions are very popular and you need to book in advance and be able to meet the deadline above. Details will be available on the website from next week.

Tuesday 1st November

If you’re an illustrator and you would like to book a portfolio review then this is your deadline. Please ensure you have read the guidelines before you apply. Details will be available on the website from next week.

Tuesday 1st November

Oh no! Bookings close! Please don’t miss out on the best conference of the year, and book early to ensure you get to the sessions you really want to attend. Some sessions will fill very quickly.

Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th November

Conference time! We can’t wait to see you.

Wait…what about The Hook?

You may have noticed there’s no update on deadlines for our Dragon's Den-style pitching event, The Hook.  Don’t worry, we’ll be providing a further update with full details soon.

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
