The nights may be getting darker and the days colder but our SCBWI members still have much to celebrate...

It's been an exciting week for Anna Orenstein who was a featured speaker at the Margate Bookie Children's Festival 2023. Anna not only captivated young minds on October 22nd with her enchanting picture book, The Tree of Hope, but also brought a touch of diversity and Caribbean culture to the event.

This is the first time the festival has opened its doors to children's writers

Presenting to children of all ages, Anna shared the inspiring true tale of a historic Caribbean tree that was devastated by Hurricane Maria. The story weaves together lessons of rescue, regrowth, and the transformative power of community.

Anna’s presentation endeavored to breathe life into the magic of storytelling, while also leaving a positive and culturally enriched impact on the festival's debut children's event. Congratulations Anna!

Jennifer Burkinshaw is celebrating the release of her new YA novel. Happiness Seeker is being published by Beaten Track Publishing and will be released on the 1st November.

Jennifer is taking her book into several secondary schools to use as part of her writing workshops

Jennifer's book is a thriller-mystery-love story, set across one week, which follows a sixth form drama trip to Morecambe Bay that ends in tragedy. It was written with advice from the anti-slavery charities Unseen and Hope For Justice and has references and echoes to Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge. It also features photos of the dramatic locations in the story.

We wish you every success Jennifer!

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
