ILLUSTRATION KNOWHOW Make your art known

Would we use most of the products we do today, in our day-to-day lives, if we did not know they existed? No matter how amazing the quality of a product is, even if it's what you've been imagining in your dreams, the product won't find you if you don't know of its existence. This is the same with art too..

This is Part 4 of 4 in this series of time management skills.

So long as we are only making art just for fun and as a hobby, which is absolutely great and probably how most of us got started in the first place, we all want our work to get seen. We also want to get paid for what we love to do and have our work read, held and admired by many people out in the world.

A few years back, I heard a talk by someone (unfortunately I don’t recall the name) and one sentence stuck in my mind: "Choose the Races you want to Run". If you are running every single race that you come across then you will not have any energy to run the BIG Run that really matters to you.

Today there are so many social media platforms and outlets. Social media is a very powerful tool - a way to get your work in front of the people who have an influence, like agents, publishing houses, editors and others. But you don't really have to do all of them and maybe not all the time.

Know and identify
-Who is your audience? Which means for whom are you creating work?
-Where is your audience present?
-If it's more than one platform, then can you make something that you can use for multiple platforms without having to re-create for each platform?
-What does your audience want?

So once you know and identify who your audience is, what it is that they want and how to reach them...

Make a plan how to get your work in front of them. There is a very high probability it may take sometime to get noticed, but consistency is the key. You never truly fail until you stop and give up. So keep altering your plans to get to your goals and it will get you there eventually.

Do you know your audience?

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
