The Halloween Forest
By John Shelley
Although this won't be released until next year, here's a sneak preview of my upcoming Halloween themed book for Holiday House in the US. The Halloween Forest, written by Marion Dane Bauer, is a fantastical romp in a spooky bone forest. Fingers crossed it will find a publisher in the UK too. Woooooo!!!!!

These are beautiful pictures, John. Are they pen and watercolour? (You never can tell these days!) Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mike! Yes, all hand painted in pen & watercolour. I use Photoshop for commercial work and some non-fiction, but all by hand for fiction. I'd like to work more in digital for my books, but still seeking a way that works for me. Somehow hand painted is more intuitive for me.
ReplyDeleteTruely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI really love the interesting viewpoints and colour combinations. Thanks John.

Beautiful artwork John, and the trees are very much in your wonderful watercolour tree-style, even though these are bone trees! I'm not sure I explained that very well... but I know what I mean :o)
ReplyDeleteexquisite composition too. I particularly like the skeletons. Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteBravo John! Great to see these again after that first peek . Somehow I keep getting sucked into that path of beautiful icy-blue trees...Ooooo!
ReplyDeleteLove those skeletons, both macabre and playful at the same time. This is going to be a beautiful book!
ReplyDeleteThe images are full of fun - looks like they were great fun to do, too. I love them. Also love the new header.
ReplyDeleteWow John! These are great, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteFabulous - I so wish I could draw & paint like that. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh I so love all the magical trees John, wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe spreads are all so beautiful! Macabre, magical and playful all at once. Wish you much success with this book.
ReplyDeleteThese are wondrous! I especially like the first image, inviting and scary at the same time...
