Network News: Wales Network 2016
What we do
The Wales
network has been small and quiet for a while but we’re looking to change that.
Here’s your chance to get in at the start of new and exciting things.
Carmarthen Chat
To date,
this has been our most regular meeting spot (usually every 2 to 3 months). It’s
an informal, late morning Saturday meet-up where we can catch up on news, share
work for critique and talk about anything writing related. So far, we’ve been meeting
in Calon Café in central Carmarthen and there’ll usually be 4 or 5 of us. Do
let us know if you’d like to join us - lifts are often available from the
Cardiff area.
Facebook Group
We have
a Facebook group which is open to all Wales SCBWI members. Here, we discuss and
post details of meet-ups, post general items of interest and celebrate our members’
successes. If you want to keep up to date with what’s going on in Wales, get in
touch with us and we’ll sign you up.
Local Groups
Ideally,
as numbers grow, we’d like to set up local groups to operate independently across
Wales. If you’re interested in joining or running a group in your area, please let
us know.
Events
Again,
numbers permitting, we’d like to hold some larger events in Wales and we’re always
looking for suggestions. Ideas so far have included an away day in mid-Wales, a
weekend retreat and outings to the many literature festivals in Wales. Please
let us have your suggestions and we’ll see what we can arrange.
Upcoming events in 2016
With the
Cardiff
Children’s Literary Festival on between April 16-24th
http://www.cardiff-events.com/cardiff-childrens-literature-festival-2016/
and
SCBWI’s 20th birthday taking place across the UK this summer, we’re hoping to get
more writers involved, increase our publicity, (WE ARE HERE - yes, just over
here in the west! Shw
mae?!), and
get some workshops, events, and get togethers happening.
Proposed dates:
April
16th: A lunch
date in Cardiff with other SCBWIs.
April
19th: A number
of members will be attending Jon Mayhew and Barry
Cunningham’s;
Writing
for Children event at
Cardiff City Hall (7-8pm).
May/June:
Catch up
at the Hay-on-Wye Book Festival.
June/July:
SCBWI
birthday celebration events.
Details
of all the above will be announced closer their respective dates on our FB page
so come
on over and join us for a warm Welsh ‘Croeso!’
No comments:
We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
