CELEBRATIONS June 2018
Summer is here! Time to crack open the suntan cream and dust off those sunglasses. Why not get out there for a new adventure! B B Taylor begins the month of June by sharing some of our latest achievements with all our SCBWI celebration news.
New Releases
The fantastic Camilla Chester kicks us off with her latest offering ... The Thirteenth Wish is her newest creation released in May, is already collecting in those shiny 5-star reviews! Whoop Whoop! What better way to celebrate than an awesome author selfie!
Gary Haq shares with us his new funny, heartfelt eco-adventure My Dad, the Earth Warrior launched June 5th. After a freak accident, Hero’s dad believes he is an earth warrior sent to protect Mother Earth. Can Hero and his dad save the world in time? A funny story about climate change, family and hope.
Cath Howe announces the publication and launch of Ella on the Outside by Nosy Crow. Launched in May at the Alligator's Mouth Bookshop in Richmond, the book is a contemporary middle-grade story about mess, bullying and the struggle to find the right friend. How do you cope when you're new in school, you know no one and you are protecting a family secret?

Cath Jones recently celebrated the publication of her eleventh early reader book. Go Nan Go! and On the Log was published by Maverick at the end of May. It's a quirky story of a granny taking part in a running race in a school sports day inspired by a real-life fun-loving granny who is always game for anything! It has beautiful illustrations by Valeria Issa
Katya Bozukova has launched her first poetry book on Lulu. It's called Medusa's Daughter, a Young Adult crossover that it is available as an ebook and paperback. That is one happy author there! Congratulations Katya.
Have you seen stinky dog? That's what Lynne Russell asks as she shares with us her latest picture book Stinky-Dog...Where Are You? available now from Amazon.
Caroline Clayton is roaring into June with her second book Maggie’s Monsters which is due to be released on June 27th with a launch in Waterstones West End Edinburgh, 6-7pm. (Monsters welcome too!)
Up-coming Books
Tracy Darnton is pleased to announce The Truth About Lies, her young adult thriller about a girl who remembers everything will be published by Stripes on12th July 2018.
Cath Howe has even more to celebrate this month though as she announces Nosy Crow has commissioned a second standalone MG novel which will come out next year- watch this space!
Gary Dix is pleased to announce Book 2 of the Brian Brackbrick series, Brian Brackbrick and the Mystery of Mrs Blumenhole, will be released in September. Details of the official launch in September will be announced soon!
Awards
Jacob Sager Weinstein has more than enough of a reason for celebrating! His book City of Secret Rivers has been shortlisted for the Branford Boase award, which goes to the best debut novel for children. The winner will be announced in July. We have our fingers and toes crossed!

Quen Press short story competition 2017 prize winners were recently announced and the awesome K. M. Lockwood took first place for piece 'Tasting Notes'

SCBWI members have been taking Winchester by storm this month! ....
Huge congratulations to Anne Boyere who has won this year's competition in the Funny Fiction category with her Middle Grade novel, Milk Moon!

And a big shout out to Caroline Murphy who was shortlisted for the Children’s Funny Stories competition, run by the Winchester Writers’ Festival with her book Joe and the Dark Unicorn

Penny Joelson is next as she found out that that I Have No Secrets won the Leeds Book Award (11-14) category!

Jennifer Skene has won first prize for children’s writing in the Swanwick Summer School Writing Magazine competition for her picture book story, Stay Close, Little Zebra. She's looking forward to heading to Derbyshire for a week in August. The story will be published in the October edition of the magazine, we can;t wait to grab a copy!

Not only have we had celebrations in Winchester we've also been celebrating closer to home at SCBWI-BI HQ with announcement of this year winner of the Crystal Kite award! The winner is Lorraine Gregory for her fantastic Mold and the Poison Plot and we can't wait to celebrate at the conference in November!
The awards keep rolling in this month! Next up the fabulous Peter Bunzl. On May the 3rd his book Cogheart won the Awesome Book Award. The Awesome Book Award is a prize that honours the best new fiction authors for young readers aged between 7 and 10. To be eligible for the 2018 award, titles had to be an UK-based author’s debut novel, suitable for able readers in the listed age group, appealing to both boys and girls and available in paperback from May 2016.
Agents
Caroline Murphy is definitely dancing this June as she celebrates signing with literary agent Lauren Gardner at Bell Lomax Moreton.

Kathryn L Kettle has signed with Alice Sutherland-Hawes of the Madeleine Milbury Literary Agency in March following being a finalist of SCBWI Undiscovered Voices, yet another great initiative from the fantastic SCBWI opportunities available to members.
New Members
We welcome new member Anna Liddle. Anna is extremely excited as she already has a manuscript being considered by a publisher and we are so happy to be sharing this journey with her too! Good luck Anna, we're with you all the way!
We love welcoming new members into SCBWI and watching them grow and succeed in chasing their goals. If you're a new member, let us know so we can welcome you too. SCBWI has so much to offer its members - celebrating their successes is just part of the fun! And if you're too shy, or not quite ready yet to give us a wave, remember we are always here to support you through your adventures!
Good News
Peter Bunzl has double celebration cake this month as it is announced that the Cogheart Trilogy has been bought for the US by Jolly Fish Press. Malkin is grabbing his passport and heading off exploring!
