New Releases 


Garry Dix opens our month with the sharp sting of his latest release Brian Brackbrick and the Scowl of the Scorpion. Follow Brian Brackbrick and his best friend George Bum on their third adventure, to face their deadliest enemy yet, Mr. Carl Scorpion! Grab your copy and check out their adventures.



Yvonne Ivinson is as bouncy as a jack in the box as she shares her debut release Fox and the Box with us. Published by Greenwillow and HarperCollins it came out in the US on 21 May and was out here in the UK on 27 June.



Cambridge based SCBWI member Giulietta Spudich is celebrating this summer with not one but two new books out: The Ice Giant and Element Girls – The Lost Goddess, both published by Handersen Publishing, are available now and waiting to share their adventures with you.



Kelley Donner is bouncing into action as she releases her first book, Ball! Ball! Ball! a picture book to inspire sensory awareness about a young exuberant boy with autism, who speaks only a few words and has a fascination for round objects and discovering new things. Join him on his journey and see what you can discover too!





The Stranger's Guide To Talliston by John Tarrow is our next exciting release in this month's celebrations; a YA fantasy adventure set in Britain's most extraordinary home: Talliston House & Gardens. And to excite you even more, the hardback, due on 11 July, is part of a limited edition of 500 with foil cover artwork and illustrated endpapers and is available to visitors of the house or direct from the author.

We all dream of being extraordinary, now Rashmi Sirdeshpande inspires us to do just that with the help of publisher Puffin and illustrator Annabel Tempest. How to be Extraordinary will inspire you with the real-life stories of extraordinary people, showcasing a total variety of personalities and talents.





We all love a fairy tale with a twist and Marie Basting is doing a full 360 of fun with her upcoming release Princess BMX, published by Chicken House this Summer. Enchanted meets BMX in this hilariously funny new tale that is flipping into shops soon!

We're proud to be able to announce that our very own Camilla Chester was one of the three finalists of the Mslexia Children’s Novel Competition 2019. Whoop whoop! This is how she celebrated with the news – champers and face mask! Now that's rock and roll.

Good News

We are thrilled to announce that SCBWI South East Scotland network is going national! Due to the hard work of the team, SCBWI is expanding its reach to help and support more people. From now on, they will be known as the SCBWI Scotland network.

Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
