EVENTS Before Bias

In November 2021, Storymix and SCBWI British Isles partnered up to bring us the online event Before Bias: Changing the Face of Series Fiction. If you missed it, Sara Grant and the team at Storymix have provided some highlights…

Series fiction can create a life-long love of reading, yet it doesn’t always get the love and attention it deserves. This event, like the work of Storymix more widely, sought to champion series fiction and the opportunities it presents to capture readers early, while also challenging issues of representation in children’s fiction.

Jasmine Richards, Storymix Founder and Series Creator, hosted the event in conversation with Maisie Chan, Swapna Haddow, and Tọlá Okogwu – authors passionate about writing inclusive stories for young readers. They discussed the importance of series fiction, their experiences as authors and the need for quality, organic representation in kids’ books.

You can read Jasmine Richards' comprehensive blog post about the event, along with details of further resources, here, and also watch highlights from the event below...

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
