CELEBRATIONS October 2024
Let's see what our fantastic SCBWI members are celebrating this autumn...
Congratulations to David Barker whose second middle-grade adventure, Pax and The Forgotten Pincher, will publish with Tiny Tree Children’s Books on 10th October. David will be celebrating with an online party on that day and, "because he’s greedy", there will also be an in person launch at Fourbears Books in Caversham on 11th October.
SCBWI members are welcome to attend either event! Contact him at info@davidbarkerauthor.co.uk for more details.
Pax’s second year at
Scholastic Parliament begins with a shocking discovery, a painful betrayal and
a new boy muscling in on his friendships. As New London comes under attack in
suspicious circumstances, who can he trust?
Aimed at readers 9-13 this dystopian adventure is the sequel to Pax and The Missing Head and covers
topics as diverse as STEM, politics, friendship and fake news. We wish you all
the very best David.
And it’s a double celebration
this month for the Barker household because David has teamed up with his wife Fiona Barker, (an award-winning picture book writer in her own right), to produce their
third pantomime script together. George and Dragon has just been
accepted to the Lazy Bee Scripts website for publication and is available for
use by drama groups across the world.
Anthracite the wicked witch is holding the cold kingdom to ransom over access to her fuel. Meanwhile, nature-loving Princess Poppy is told she must marry a knight, but she loves George and he can’t become a knight unless he kills a dragon. It’s just a shame he’s scared stiff of them. And besides there hasn’t been one sighted for years…
Containing all the traditional elements of panto – with an entirely new take on the legend – this script aims to deliver joy, laughter, dance and songs to young and old alike. It sounds absolutely fabulous and congratulations David and Fiona!

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
