BLOG BREAK Challenges, Cones and Conferences

Nick Cross presents his fortnightly selection of must-read blogs.

Lucy Van Smit has launched her debut novel The Hurting with a blog tour. Join her on her first stop to find out all about this tale of obsessive love, Norwegian fjords and wolves.

Maureen Lynas is twittering away at Notes from the Slushpile. Actually, I mean Twittering, because her blog post is all about how she's learnt to love using Twitter as a writer.

Here are a couple of super-useful posts reporting back on recent conferences. Natascha Biebow was lucky enough to attend the SCBWI International Conference in LA, and shares Five Tips for the Creative Process that she discovered. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Dulemba has been to a fascinating conference in Cambridge called Synergy and Contradiction: How Picturebooks and Picture Books Work. Her blog post has all the details.

John Shelley is thinking small, with some tiny but exquisite drawings for the House of Illustration's daily art challenge. The challenge runs all month, but here are John's first nine illustrations.

Finally, Catherine Rosevear's dog is wearing the "cone of shame" (yes, there is a photo), which has made Catherine think about the things that cause us shame as authors, like rejection letters.

No comments:

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
