EVENTS SCBWI Conference 2023 Author Keynote
Bestselling author, Robin Stevens (Murder Most Unladylike series and Ministry of Unladylike Activity, will take the stage on Saturday morning, 4 November, to kick off the conference, inspire and dazzle, writers and illustrators alike.

For a cosy-crime loving writer, such as myself, I am delighted to welcome Author Keynote, Robin Stevens, the queen of murder, mystery and underage detectives, to this year's conference. I can't think of a better author to speak on our theme, Writing with Hope, considering her range of work including three series and four standalone books.
Robin was born in California and grew up in an Oxford college, across the road from the house where Alice in Wonderland lived, and she has been making up stories all her life. When she was twelve, her father handed her a copy of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and she realised that she wanted to be Agatha Christie when she grew up.
She spent her teenage years at Cheltenham Ladies' College, reading a lot of murder mysteries and hoping that she'd get the chance to do some detecting herself (she didn't). She went to university, where she studied crime fiction, and then she worked at a children's publisher. Robin is now a full-time author, and her books are both award-winning and bestselling. She lives in Oxford.
Her latest book, The Body in the Blitz, second in the Ministry of Unladylike Activity series, published on the 12th of October, 2023. The story follows May Wong and friends, who have travelled to London, during World War II for spy training with the Ministry of Unladylike Activity. When they discover a body amongst the rubble from the Blitz, that was clearly placed there after the bombing, they set out to solve this strange murder.
The Murder Most Unladylike series, set in 1930’s England, Hong Kong and Egypt, and other interesting locations, features ten books in all. The heroines, Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong, founders of Wells and Wong Detective society, solve their first murder at Deepdean boarding school, where they are students.
The Deepdean Mini-Mysteries is a series of short stories featuring Wells and Wong Detective Society.

Stephanie Cotela is the Network News & Events Editor for Words & Pictures online magazine. She writes across genres from children’s picture books to adult crime fiction and is particularly fond of ghost stories. Originally from New York she has been living in and around London for nearly two decades. Her debut middle-grade novel The Ghosts of Hawkthorn will be released in 2024.
