SCBWI-BI CONFERENCE 2023 Writing workshops

Are you a writer going to the SCBWI conference? You will find so much to inspire and encourage you. Whether you are pre-published or published you’ll love our inspiring talks and workshops over two fun-packed days. Tania Tay tells us all about the workshops that await!

Our Keynote Author is Robin Stevens, bestselling author of the Murder Most Unladylike series set in a boarding school in the 1930s. Robin is now on tour with her new series about World War II, including The Body in the Blitz. If anyone has ever heard her talk you will know how supportive Robin is to other writers and this will be an inspiring session you won’t want to miss!

Writing your own mystery novel? Penny Joelson, award-winning author and City Lit tutor will help you devise your cast of sleuths, antagonists and more. Penny will also lead a fun workshop in Show Don’t Tell so you can brush up on those all-important skills.

If picture books are more your thing Clare Helen Welsh and Libby Hamilton are holding some great workshops to get the ball rolling on your ideas.

Maybe you have a non-fiction idea you’re burning to write? You can find out more from our panel with authors Kate Peridot and Larry Hayes and their agent Becky Bagnell

You can find out how to write inclusive fiction with Storymix Studio founder Jasmine Richards and editor Stephanie King.

If you’re ready to submit your novel to agents find out all the nuts and bolts of how to do it in the Publishing 101 session with author Matt Killeen and agent Jessica Hare. And author and financial expert Anna Orenstein Cardona is running a session on your income and finances as an author.

There are great workshops with Peter Bunzl, award-winning author of the Cogheart series, teaching worldbuilding with the Hero’s Journey. And prolific series author Paula Harrison will lead a workshop on developing your own young fiction series.

Plus Candy Gourlay and Mo O’Hara are running a unique session on filming and presenting yourself on screen.

If you are looking for an agent or editorial advice there are one to one sessions still available with literary agents and editors. Or you could submit a piece for The Hook – our fun game show where we pair up lucky aspiring authors with a literary agent – the SCBWI version of Blind Date

Then party like it’s 2023 at the Saturday night Mass Book Launch…

Plus the whole weekend you’ll be mingling and chatting to a crowd of supportive lovely writers and illustrators. We hope you’ll come away from a fabulous weekend with new friends and new writing goals – and all the support to help you find your path to publication.

Hope to see you there!

We love comments and really appreciate the time it takes to leave one.
Interesting and pithy reactions to a post are brilliant but we also LOVE it when people just say they've read and enjoyed.
We've made it easy to comment by losing the 'are you human?' test, which means we get a lot of spam. Fortunately, Blogger recognises these, so most, if not all, anonymous comments are deleted without reading.
